Respect for Human Rights
Message from the President on the TOHO Group Human Rights Policy
The TOHO Group is committed to harnessing the power of entertainment—through its values of vivacity, modesty, fairness, and grace—to help build a society where everyone can enjoy rich, full lives. As such, we have set forth four material issues to be addressed in our Sustainability Policy. One of these is "Respecting human rights and fostering a constructive and fair corporate culture."
In order to establish a system that enables us to sustainably fulfill our group slogan, "Moments for Life," we recognize that respecting the human rights of all individuals involved in the TOHO Group’s business activities is essential. For this reason, we established and published the TOHO Group Human Rights Policy in line with the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.
In recent years, various issues related to business and human rights have become increasingly apparent in the entertainment industry.
The TOHO Group conducts human rights due diligence within the Group as part of its efforts to identify current challenges. Going forward, we will also work to identify and address business and human rights issues within our supply chain and will take measures to address them in a timely and appropriate manner.
As a company that delivers entertainment, including films, animation, and theatrical productions, we believe that advancing these initiatives will also help address challenges facing the entertainment industry as a whole.
The pursuit of respect for human rights is fundamental to our commitment to creating a safe, fair, and healthy workplace and society. We remain committed to implementing a range of measures on an ongoing basis, including human rights due diligence.
Hiroyasu Matsuoka, President & CEO
TOHO Group Human Rights Policy
The TOHO Group has established and published the TOHO Group Human Rights Policy on March 1, 2023 as a policy to respect the human rights of all individuals involved in the Group's business activities.
Promotion Structure
In June 2025, the TOHO Group established the Group Human Rights Committee under the supervision of the Board of Directors and the Management Committee to implement initiatives aimed at respecting human rights across the entire value chain. The committee is chaired by the President and Representative Director and is scheduled to meet twice a year. It serves as a forum for approving human rights due diligence plans across the value chain, reporting on outcomes, and sharing and discussing policies related to "business and human rights." We regard the promotion of business and human rights initiatives as a material issue and will pursue them with strong commitment from senior leadership.
Corporate Governance Structure
Human Rights Education
The TOHO Group continuously conducts human rights education and training for all employees of the Group with a specific theme each year. In addition, we invite external legal counsel specializing in business and human rights to conduct seminars for directors and executive officers, deepening management’s understanding of human rights issues and strengthening its commitment to addressing them.
Human Rights Due Diligence
Since December 2023, the TOHO Group has been conducting human rights risk surveys through questionnaires to identify, analyze, and evaluate the potential negative impact on human rights among TOHO Group officers and employees, and taking corrective and remedial measures for priority issues detected to prevent recurrence. We also evaluate the effectiveness of these human rights due diligence initiatives and disclose relevant information in our Integrated Report and other materials.
Human Rights Due Diligence
refers to companies identifying and then preventing and addressing human rights risks throughout all their processes and locations
Grievance Mechanisms
The TOHO Group has established multiple consultation and reporting channels to ensure that everyone can safely speak out about the diverse concerns that may arise in different working environments and positions, including in day‑to‑day operations and on film and theater production sites. We have also put in place a framework that allows employees, freelancers, and on‑site staff who support content production to flexibly access the appropriate consultation and reporting channels for their respective situations.
| Consultation service | Eligible users | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Harassment consultation desk (TOHO Group companies) | All officers and employees of the TOHO Group | Provides consultation and complaint handling for harassment‑related issues. |
| Whistleblowing and consultation desk (TOHO Group) | Provides a channel for reporting and consultation on potential violations of laws, internal regulations, or corporate ethics (including harassment). | |
| Human rights due diligence secretariat (consultation desk) | Provides consultation on potential human rights violations at all times. | |
| Harassment consultation desk for freelancers | Freelancers directly contracted by the TOHO Group | Extends the scope of existing TOHO Group harassment consultation desks to freelancers. |
| Harassment consultation desk for film and theatrical production sites | All individuals working at film and theatrical production sites produced by the TOHO Group | Handles not only harassment reports but also concerns regarding working hours and compensation at production sites, with corrective measures taken where necessary. |
Addressing Harassment
Framework
TOHO has established a whistleblowing and consultation desk to provide employees with a direct channel for seeking advice or raising concerns. Harassment cases are handled by the Human Resources Department, while other matters are addressed by the Legal Department or external legal counsel. Every case is managed with the utmost rigor and impartiality.
