In particular, we view it essential to recruit professionals with expertise gained outside the company, and have therefore expanded and reinforced our mid‑career hiring program.

DE&I Training

As part of our commitment to building a vibrant organization that respects diversity, TOHO conducted DE&I training for executive officers. In sessions led by external instructors, participants explored global trends and best practices for organizations where diverse talent can thrive. They also engaged in lively group discussions informed by their own experiences and perspectives, deepening their understanding of DE&I and considering the future of TOHO as an organization that grows together.

Ensuring Access for Guests with Hearing and Visual Impairments

Film Initiatives

The TOHO Group undertakes a variety of initiatives to ensure that guests with hearing or visual impairments can enjoy films as well.
For TOHO‑distributed films, we offer Japanese subtitled screenings that display dialogue, sound effects, and other audio cues on screen. In addition, we provide both "closed captions (glasses)" and "audio descriptions" through a dedicated app., supplementing movie information with on‑demand subtitles and narration.

Theater Initiatives

TOHO offers a script loan service for all of its stage productions, enabling guests with hearing impairments to fully experience the inspiration of live theater. The service provides both paper scripts and specially shielded tablets, allowing guests to preview the story and dialogue in written form and enjoy a more comfortable, accessible theater experience.

Barrier‑Free Access: Ensuring everyone can enjoy our facilities with peace of mind

TOHO Cinemas promotes barrier‑free accessibility across its theaters nationwide. Each theater is equipped with a ramp and a dedicated space for wheelchair‑accessible movie viewing. These areas feature movable seats that can be fixed in place next to wheelchair spaces to allow caregivers to sit together with wheelchair users. Wheelchair‑accessible restrooms are also provided, complete with stoma‑friendly facilities. (Some theaters may not be equipped due to structural or facility constraints.)
At Theatre Creation, one of TOHO’s live performance venues, dedicated viewing spaces and restrooms for wheelchair users are also in place. When assisting our wheelchair guests, our staff follow detailed operational manuals and take particular care with guidance routes to ensure every guest can enjoy a comfortable viewing experience.

Making Movies More Accessible for Families with Young Children

TOHO Cinemas has offered Baby Club Theater^® screenings for more than 20 years since 2003, enabling families with babies to enjoy movies with peace of mind.
At these screenings, we create an environment where families need not worry about disturbing others if their children suddenly start crying or make noise. The lighting is also kept brighter than usual, while the sound volume and air conditioning are adjusted to reduce the burden on young children. We also lend booster seats and provide stroller storage services to ensure a comfortable moviegoing experience for families.
