GEMSTONE Creative Label

The GEMSTONE Creative Label originated from the GEMSTONE Creators Audition, a talent discovery initiative. Relaunched in 2023 as TOHO's proprietary content label, it aims to discover and cultivate the next generation of creators and producers. It provides a platform where young creators and producers can team up and pursue innovative projects beyond conventional formats and practices.
Early-career TOHO employees also have access to opportunities to take on producer roles, gaining hands-on experience and growing in the areas of creative development, production, and marketing from an early stage.

Preservation of Original Film Prints

Restoring and Digitally Preserving Classic Films

The TOHO Group is dedicated to preserving classic films to ensure that cinematic culture is passed on to future generations. The TOHO Archive, having taken over preservation and digitization operations from TOKYO LABORATORY LTD., conducts regular inspections and cleaning of fragile original film prints. DCP Conversion of the Entire Godzilla Series

As part of its film preservation efforts, the TOHO Group has launched a DCP* conversion project for one of its most iconic pieces of IP: the Godzilla series.
To mark the 70th anniversary in 2024 of the release of the original Godzilla in 1954, TOHO launched this project covering all live-action Godzilla films through Godzilla: Final Wars (2004). The project aims to give audiences the opportunity to experience the appeal of these works in theaters while passing on to future generations the finest special effects techniques the TOHO Group has developed over many years.

To reach both longtime Godzilla fans and younger viewers who have had fewer opportunities to experience Godzilla, TOHO introduced a special Godzilla student discount for all viewers up to university age.

Passing on Cultural Legacy: An Imperial Theatre for the Future

Digital Archiving Project

Reopened in 1966 as "the world's finest theater to be enjoyed in casual clothing," the Second Imperial Theatre Building closed its doors at the end of February 2025 for redevelopment. TOHO launched a digital archiving project to preserve and pass down the architectural and cultural significance of this second Imperial Theatre, a venue beloved by audiences for nearly six decades.
The project records the Second Imperial Theatre in 3D data to capture its textures and shapes, ensuring it can be preserved as a long-term asset for education and cultural heritage. The project used photogrammetry* and laser scanning technologies to record textures, shapes, and spatial depth that could not be captured through photographs or design drawings alone, combining multi-angle still photography with point-cloud data acquired using laser measurement devices.

Photogrammetry refers to the process of creating 3D computer models by combining data from multiple photographs.
